Midden-Drenthe
Groenlanden Solar Park
Zonnepark Groenlanden is more than just a solar park. Together with HorizonNL, we are creating a landscape where renewable energy, water storage, nature, and recreation come together. The project area is located between Klatering and the Beilerstroom in the municipality of Midden-Drenthe. Of the 17 submitted plans in the public tender, Groenlanden emerged as the best, and thus the winner, in early May 2025.

Zonnepark Groenlanden combines solar energy, water storage, and nature development in a single plan. The project delivers clean energy, increases biodiversity, and keeps the area accessible for recreation.
Key elements of the plan:
-
The plan for Zonnepark Groenlanden is special because it does much more than simply generating renewable energy.
-
The project combines power generation with a water storage capacity of 75,000 m³, which helps to absorb peak rainfall and prevent flooding.
-
More than 32 hectares will be developed as open, fauna-rich grassland, and the stream valley landscape will be restored, increasing biodiversity.
-
The solar panels are positioned in a way that leaves room for recreation, with walking paths and sightlines that keep the area accessible.
-
50% of the project will be in local ownership through the Midden-Drenthe Energy Cooperative, ensuring that revenues benefit the local community.
-
The layout was designed so that the distance to residential homes is at least 370 meters, preserving peace and views for local residents.
